Responsibilities include undertaking the full range of duties appropriate to the Section, being responsible for the completion of work programmes and tasks laid down by the Team Manager, including the supervision and management of Lead Officers, Environmental Health Officers, and Technical Officers or Assistants.
Manage staff by allocating work, determining priorities, and monitoring performance to ensure compliance with legislation, codes of practice, statutory guidance, and Council policies and procedures.
As an Environmental Health Officer, you are required to deputise for the Team Manager.
Make decisions and initiate appropriate action in cases of contraventions of statutory requirements, including the service of notices.
Interpret and apply relevant legislation, considering Codes of Practice and official and professional guidance, and make recommendations for enforcement action, preparing evidence in line with CPS Code of Practice, PACE, and other relevant legislation and guidance.
Act as a source of expertise within the Section, taking a lead on complex and contentious matters (including emergency action such as prohibitions), directing, accompanying, and supporting Lead Officers, Environmental Health Officers, and Technical Officers or Assistants on such cases.
Make recommendations to the Team Manager on policy and devise procedures as requested.
Deal with complaints and matters raised in correspondence, statutory documents, and statistics relating to your area of work.
Prepare reports for the approval of the Team Manager and the Head of Service, and attend meetings of Committees, working parties, etc., as necessary.
Working Hours: 37 Hours per week

- Qualified Environmental Health Officer or a Pollution Officer with a strong background in environmental protection/pollution control
- Proven experience in noise planning consultations and Section 61 processes
- Knowledge of air quality management and action planning
- Awareness of water quality and environmental improvement projects
- Ability to work independently and provide clear technical advice
