We are currently recruiting a Deputy Officer in Charge for our client based in Cardiff.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Officer in Charge to join a new Children’s Home in Cardiff, supporting some of the most vulnerable children and young people in the area.

We are looking for a confident, independent and effective Deputy Manager who can lead, inspire and motivate staff, while helping to develop the home and promote the wellbeing, safety and development of the young people we support.

As Deputy Officer in Charge, you will assist with the day-to-day management and administration of the home, ensuring that the service operates to a high standard and meets all relevant regulatory and legislative requirements.

Responsibilities of the Deputy Officer in Charge:

  • Support the Officer in Charge/Registered Manager with the effective day-to-day management and operation of the children’s home.
  • Ensure young people receive a sensitive, individualised service that meets their social, racial, medical, psychological, educational, cultural and physical needs, as well as their overall health and wellbeing.
  • Promote a child-centred approach, ensuring young people are listened to, have a voice in decisions about their lives and are supported to develop independence.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with young people, their families, carers and other professionals.
  • Promote meaningful family involvement, consultation and participation in the care and decision-making process.
  • Support young people to become integrated within their local communities and make appropriate use of local facilities and services.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with the local community and partner organisations.
  • Assist the Manager in ensuring the professional competence, performance and development of the staff team is maintained.
  • Support staff through effective supervision, guidance, mentoring and leadership.
  • Take responsibility, as delegated by the Manager, for ensuring budgets are managed effectively and expenditure is appropriately monitored.
  • Coordinate, attend and chair meetings as required, ensuring meetings promote inclusion, participation and the achievement of agreed objectives.
  • Contribute to assessments, care planning, reviews and reports relating to young people.
  • Ensure records, documentation and reports are completed accurately and within required timescales.
  • Promote a positive behaviour support model of care, ensuring staff respond consistently and appropriately to individual needs.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and challenge any inappropriate or unsafe practice.
  • Assist in ensuring the home consistently meets relevant regulatory, safeguarding and quality standards.
  • Deputise for the Manager when required and provide effective leadership in their absence.
