The Junior Accounts Assistant supports the accounting team with day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate record-keeping, timely processing of transactions, and smooth delivery of client services. This role is ideal for someone starting their accounting career who is eager to learn, develop technical skills, and gain exposure to a wide range of accounting and compliance work within a professional practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Bookkeeping & Transaction Processing
- Maintain accurate client bookkeeping records using accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
- Process purchase invoices, sales invoices, receipts, and payments.
- Perform bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Assist with maintaining fixed asset registers.
- Accounts Preparation
- Support the preparation of year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
- Assist with drafting working papers under supervision.
- Prepare basic schedules for senior accountants to review.
- VAT & Compliance
- Help prepare VAT returns, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Support compliance checks and documentation gathering.
- Maintain organised digital files in line with firm procedures and AML requirements.
- Client Service & Administration
- Respond to routine client queries professionally and promptly.
- Assist with onboarding new clients, including gathering KYC documents.
- Maintain internal trackers, workflow systems, and filing structures.
- Support the wider team with ad-hoc administrative tasks.
