BBC Studios Audio is an end‑to‑end podcast studio growing monetised networks of premium audio and audio‑visual content aligned with the BBC’s values and reputation. We are recruiting a Head of Commercial Partnerships who will report directly to the Commercial & Content Partnerships Director and support senior management in delivering the department’s overall strategic commercial objectives. The successful applicant will lead the global advertising strategy for the business, grow revenue year‑on‑year, and identify and deliver new commercial partnerships which support our vision.
The role will research and develop partnership opportunities, manage relationships with advertisers and other content funders, and lead a small specialist team that shapes and executes commercial and advertising partnership deals.
Your Key Responsibilities and Impact
- Set the advertising strategy for the business in collaboration with relevant senior leaders.
- Communicate and execute the strategy and targets with sales partners, ensuring the operational sales plan is implemented and maintained.
- Define a multi‑platform product offering and design a go‑to‑market strategy, overseeing media placements, creative executions, ad operations and measurement tools.
- Ensure competitive product pricing, determining cost‑of‑sale and package pricing frameworks.
- Review revenue yield potential across the portfolio, including RSS, YouTube, social platforms, newsletters and other distribution routes.
- Collaborate with creative production teams to develop and produce content that aligns with advertiser needs.
- Ensure successful delivery of campaigns against agreed KPIs, using measurement tools and analytics.
- Support the sales team in client relationships, turning one‑off deals into recurring partnerships.
- Identify opportunities for new and innovative solutions to drive revenue from market‑relevant categories.
- Work within BBC Advertising and Sponsorship frameworks, maintaining editorial and advertising standards.
- Monitor advertising and podcast market trends, including responsible use of AI, and provide business intelligence.
- Lead trade marketing strategy and key forums to raise the profile of the podcast business.
- Coach and develop a small team of direct reports, setting objectives that support the overall strategy.
Essential Criteria / Your Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience of strategic and commercial success at senior level within digital media or podcasting.
- Extensive advertiser relationships and sales/negotiating experience in the UK or US.
- Ability to develop powerful partnership proposals and pitch confidently.
- Experience delivering integrated creative solutions for advertising clients.
- Experience managing critical stakeholder relationships.
- Experience in client servicing or account handling.
- Good knowledge of contractual and copyright matters.
- A capable and empathetic leader with line‑management experience, fostering a high‑performing culture.
