PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £29,000 - £35,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. Purpose of the Role

BBC Children in Need believes that every child should have the chance to thrive and be the best they can be. This role sits at the heart of delivering Press and Communications campaigns throughout the year that raise awareness of the charity’s work, both during the fundraising appeal season and across the rest of the year sharing the impact of our work and where the money goes.

Why Join the Team

As Senior Press & Communications Officer you will lead on your own projects and be responsible for delivering PR campaigns in support of our fundraising initiatives, partnerships and impact‑led initiatives, as well as delivering internal communications for colleagues across the charity and the wider BBC. You will have a great deal of autonomy while working alongside a small team of PR, communications and celebrity liaison experts, and collaborating with a wide range of teams across the charity and the BBC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communications strategy that drives engagement and clarity across the organisation year‑round.
  • Devise and implement strategic media and PR campaigns to raise the charity’s profile and drive public engagement.
  • Collaborate across BBC Children in Need and the wider BBC to support PR activities tied to Appeal programming and partnership campaigns.
  • Lead the team in identifying media opportunities, aligning with the daily news agenda and spotlighting the challenges faced by children and young people.
  • Develop insight‑led PR initiatives and contribute to reputation‑building efforts within the charity and funding sectors.
  • Manage press materials and media relations with precision, supporting the PR & Comms Lead in proactive and reactive press activity, including reputational risk management.
  • Plan and deliver press events such as photoshoots, visits, and launches, and deputise for the PR & Comms Lead when required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of successfully developing and delivering internal and external communication strategies.
  • Experience of delivering and supporting corporate communications, with a particular focus on internal communications.
  • Strong journalist contacts across national, consumer and trade media.
  • A proactive self‑starter with an ability to generate high‑quality, creative ideas.
  • Strong crisis communication experience.
