BBC Radio Solent is looking for a creative and dynamic Journalism Coordinator to join our talented Dorset team which reflects life here today to an audience of two million people. You will be a key member of our Dorchester studio production team, working on our Dorset Breakfast show. You'll be a collaborative team player, with a passion for storytelling, upholding high production values, and have excellent communication skills. WHY JOIN THE TEAM A critical member of our studio production teams, you'll work with our extremely talented producers, journalists and presenter/producers to help curate our output, ensure we're ready for air, and that our output is the best it can be. You'll be working in state-of-art visualised studios, where your passion for storytelling and what's happening locally, will see your content showcased and celebrated across not just the output, but all our publishing platforms.

  • As a Journalism Coordinator, you will assist the production, preparation and output of our programmes, supporting a multiplatform approach.
  • You will work as part of a programme team and the wider-station team to get your programme to air and assist with studio duties.
  • You will offer story ideas and audio treatments, set up guests, write scripts and provide research.
  • You’ll undertake a variety of production duties from editing audio and operating broadcast equipment to dealing with callers, contributors and guests.
  • You’ll be confident on‑air, be comfortable contributing and delivering on‑air segments and features.
  • You will be keen to bring in new contributors, voices and guests - and really care about making your content reach a wide and diverse audience., Digital - You'll know how to share and celebrate audio moments on digital platforms, helping deliver visualised content to other platforms and make your programme content have an after‑life on other platforms.
  • Planning - Generating ideas for multi‑platform stories and treatments. Ideas generation, story research, setting up guests and speaking with the audience.
  • Teamwork - You'll be an adaptable team player, brimming with ideas and creative treatments which will bring stories to life.
  • BBC Local - You'll understand how BBC Local's content helps the BBC achieve its strategic aims.
  • Production - You'll have experience researching, setting up and producing audio stories for linear and digital platforms; booking guests, writing cues, questions and interview briefings. You'll understand the important aspects of audio recording, editing, saving and archiving - including operating studio equipment.
  • Digital audio - Experience creating bespoke audio products for digital audio platforms like BBC Sounds.
  • Visualisation - experience of turning visualised audio content into videos for social platforms.
  • Technical operating - experience of studio set ups and how to tech‑op/studio manage live programmes.
  • Awareness of the aims of the BBC, Value for all, and the wider BBC South operations and practices.
