• PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £45,000 - £50,000 plus £5441 London Weighting, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As a Studio Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the technical readiness and reliability of broadcast facilities across Television Centre. Working across multiple studios and production environments, you will maintain, align, modify and operate a wide range of broadcast systems and equipment. You will provide expert technical support to production teams, troubleshoot complex issues, and help develop innovative solutions that enable the successful delivery of world-class television.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

• Maintain, align, modify and troubleshoot broadcast equipment and systems, ensuring technical facilities meet operational, production and engineering standards.
• Partner with production teams and resource departments to understand requirements, provide technical expertise, attend planning meetings and deliver effective broadcast solutions.
• Identify, diagnose and resolve technical faults, implementing alternative solutions where required to minimise disruption and studio downtime.
• Drive technical innovation through the development, modification and testing of equipment, systems and workflows to meet evolving production needs.
• Rig, configure and operate studio equipment including EVS record servers, vision monitoring systems, camera shading/colour balance controls and associated broadcast infrastructure.
• Lead or support refurbishment projects and complex engineering activities, working with BBC specialist teams, contractors and manufacturers to implement technical improvements and resolve design issues.
• Promote a safe and efficient working environment by ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, maintaining accurate records and reports, addressing facility issues, and providing training, guidance and supervision to junior staff, trainees and work experience placements.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

• Relevant qualifications, training, or significant practical experience in broadcast engineering within a television studio, live production or broadcast environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of broadcast technology, including cameras, routers, vision and audio mixers, sound desks, communications systems, talkback infrastructure, computer systems and networks.
• Experience working with a range of broadcast systems and software, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and workflows.
• Ability to maintain high technical standards, including the critical assessment of television pictures, waveforms, audio quality and overall signal performance.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a customer-focused approach and the ability to build effective relationships with production, operational and engineering teams.
• Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands, identify practical solutions, and know when to lift, refer or delegate issues appropriately.
• A highly self-motivated and collaborative team player with a positive, flexible approach and a strong understanding of production requirements.
• Able to perform the essential audio and visual quality assessment requirements of the role.
