PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £32,900 - £39,467 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Senior Technical Operator (STO) will be based in the BBC Stornoway office, working with BBC Naidheachdan journalists across the Western Isles. The STO will perform various roles to gather, edit and broadcast content on BBC ALBA, Radio nan Gaidheal and social media platforms and will work very closely with editorial colleagues to deliver the ambitious and high‑quality news content that our audiences expect.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Being a shoot/edit for journalists in the Western Isles, working toward tight deadlines and providing content of the highest standard.
  • Using your creativity to produce high‑quality content across multiple platforms including digital spaces.
  • Advise and guide on story treatments in terms of production values and technical viability.
  • Understand editorial issues.
  • Prioritise content generation for digital use and provide technical help for editorial colleagues working across our digital platforms.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Considerable experience working with live broadcast environment and a high‑level knowledge of cameras and editing software.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent IT skills, and the ability to acquire other technical skills and operate technical equipment.
  • A good knowledge and commitment to providing output of technically high quality.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • A good knowledge and understanding of Gaelic culture in Scotland; Gaelic language skills will be useful but not essential.
