PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: Our BBC StoryWorks Programme Partnerships team is responsible for the creation of award-winning digital series for BBC.com’s global audiences outside the UK. Combining our BBC storytelling heritage with industry expertise, we look deeper into the issues shaping society for organisations leading change. Every series we produce begins with the Series Development team. Our team of Series Developers and Researchers each become our resident expert about an important topic and identify prospective stories and partners for our global series. The team’s work has an enormous bearing on both the creative and commercial success of the unit.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM: The Senior Series Developer is responsible for guiding commercial strategy, creative excellence and team growth within the Series Development team. Acting as a key connector between commercial, creative and strategic priorities, the Senior Series Developer shapes the future pipeline of BBC StoryWorks’ branded content series, leads on the identification and development its biggest opportunities and champions the success of the Series Development team.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Content Strategy & Development: Leads the creation of insight-driven, commercially viable content proposals and go-to-market strategies to secure and grow long-term partnerships.
- Thought Leadership: Positions the team as a trusted authority on audience behaviour and content trends through compelling narratives and active industry engagement.
- Commercial & Partnership Growth: Identifies and nurtures strategic partnerships using market insights and strong industry relationships to drive repeat business.
- People & Project Management: Manages multiple projects, mentors team members, and fosters cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-quality delivery and a strong team culture.
- External Relations & Operational Excellence: Oversees key external partnerships and ensures smooth, timely execution of projects to maximize inbound interest and operational efficiency.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Strong track record in driving business growth, with a proven ability to identify, develop and convert strategic growth opportunities, with a focus on long-term value creation.
- Meaningful experience in content development, research, strategy or business growth roles, ideally within a commercial media environment.
- Project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple complex projects from development through to delivery, ensuring strategic alignment, timely execution, and high-quality output.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication, with the ability to digest complex topics and convey them clearly and concisely.
- Confident in presenting and leading high-level client and stakeholder conversations, articulating strategic and creative value in a compelling, audience-focused way.
- Experience managing or mentoring team members, with a focus on supporting performance and contributing to overall team leadership and culture.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Effective collaborator, skilled at interacting with diverse teams and aligning stakeholders across creative and commercial functions.
- Confident and credible when engaging with senior clients, internal leadership and subject matter experts.
- Proactive, solutions-focused and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working with data and insights to inform strategy and storytelling – experience with data analysis or insight tools is an advantage.
- Strong creative judgement with an instinct for what resonates with audiences and drives engagement across platforms.
