LOCATION: East – flexible

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £39,800 – £56,933. Depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The BBC East Investigation team produces memorable, high‑impact journalism that holds power to account and serves local communities. As a Senior Journalist Reporter, you will lead original investigations across all BBC platforms – online, radio, TV, Sounds, social media – and contribute to long‑form documentaries, podcasts and special coverage.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Evidence of delivering top‑quality investigations and original journalism across all BBC platforms – online, TV, radio, Sounds and social media.
  • Experience in live and daily news reporting and able to self‑shoot and edit.
  • Willing to travel across the East to build contacts and develop stories rooted in local communities.
  • Skilled at identifying risk and a strong track record of navigating complex editorial and legal challenges.
  • Understanding of secret filming, doorsteps, OSINT, data journalism and long‑form documentary production.

Desired but can be developed

  • Knowledge of BBC systems including Jupiter, OpenMedia, Wolftech, Telescope, Chartbeat, Dira, PNg, VIZ and Optimo.
  • Knowledge of copyright and sourcing archive, UGC and third‑party material and fair dealing material.
