Purpose of The Role: We’re looking for an experienced and ambitious Social Media Manager to help lead Shortform video across our wider portfolio of podcast and network radio accounts, with a strong skew towards building and maintaining success on YouTube Shorts. This role will also work across 16:9 podcast content across YouTube as a secondary aspect of the position. Previous experience and understanding of working across YouTube as a platform will be integral.
Your Team and Opportunity: You will work alongside our existing YouTube team, Commissioning teams, Production companies and often the presenters themselves to deliver full-length, fully visualised podcast episodes for YouTube to an industry-leading standard. You’ll be part of a collaborative, fast-paced, and innovative environment where best-practice is key, and be part of a friendly and experienced wider social media team working across the BBC.
Key Responsibilities and Impact:
- Plan, curate and distribute shortform video content across the BBC’s podcast and radio network YouTube Shorts portfolio, working with various internal teams.
- Work with internal BBC teams to distribute our shortform video content across BBC News and BBC homepage, and regularly report success, identify trends and opportunities.
- Collaborate with BBC internal teams to support innovative thinking around on-platform distribution of Shortform video – BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer.
- Support across BBC Sounds’ 16:9 full length podcast presence on YouTube. This role is likely to be assigned 1-2 titles to lead across.
- Co-ordinating and managing delivery of content from internal and external suppliers with clear, polite feedback and edit notes.
- Designing and creating multiple thumbnail options for YouTube video uploads, and support others within the team to do this.
- Work collaboratively across YouTube titling options, thumbnail text, metadata, descriptions and YouTube search optimisation.
- Ensure all content complies with the BBC editorial guidelines, and support teams and suppliers in meeting these standards.
- Regularly collaborate with other social teams, podcast commissioners, production companies, presenters and content discovery teams.
Your Skills and Experience:
Essential Criteria:
- Previous experience and understanding of working across YouTube as a platform.
- A strong passion for and deep knowledge of the BBC’s podcast and radio output. A regular consumer of YouTube content, especially in the podcast space.
- Strong knowledge of social video platforms, and how young users discover radio and podcast content.
- Clear communication and organisation skills.
- Confidence to clearly and concisely feedback to external suppliers of content, and manage important non-BBC relationships on a weekly basis.
- Significant experience as a Social Media Manager or as a content lead in a creative industry.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite with strong video and image editing skills, especially for YouTube Shorts and YouTube 16:9 videos.
- Design skills relevant to YouTube thumbnails, and ability to create multiple options at pace.
- A strong understanding of visualised podcasting, thumbnail creation/ideation, metadata and SEO across YouTube and Google.
Desired but Not Required:
- Knowledge of social media analytics and how to apply insights to content strategy.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across teams.
- Experience in working across content from external creators or agencies.
