PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
You’ll combine discovery and complex analysis to uncover insights that influence product strategy, prioritisation and iterative development. Acting as a trusted partner to stakeholders, you’ll balance competing requests with a clear understanding of product goals, helping teams move beyond asking what happened to understanding what should we do next. Your work will directly influence the experiences of millions of BBC audiences by ensuring product decisions are driven by evidence, audience needs and measurable outcomes.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
As a Principal Product Analyst, you will provide strategic analytical leadership across BBC digital products, helping shape product strategy through data-informed decision making. You will operate at a strategic level, partnering with senior product managers, data scientists, UX and engineers to identify the most impactful opportunities. You will help define where analytical effort should be prioritised, focusing on where it can deliver the greatest impact. You will combine deep analytical expertise, strong product judgement and proactive strategic thinking to influence prioritisation and long-term product direction. Alongside this, you will champion best practice and help to develop and mentor analysts.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
- Translate complex data through advanced SQL/Python into clear strategic recommendations that influence product direction.
- Partner with senior stakeholders to shape product strategy through data and insight.
- Own significant areas of discovery and experimentation that uncover opportunities for growth.
- Identify and prioritise the highest value analytical opportunities across a portfolio of products and initiatives.
- Ability to use visualisation tools to a high level to support exceptional storytelling through insight.
- Challenge assumptions and ensure decisions are grounded in evidence and audience value.
- Develop and evolve measurement frameworks that align product outcomes with organisational objectives.
- Champion best practice in product analytics and drive a culture of data-informed decision making.
- Mentor senior analysts and help develop analytical capability across the organisation, with the capacity to manage more junior team members.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Extensive experience delivering product analytics within large-scale digital products, with Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large, complex datasets.
- Proven experience influencing product strategy and organisational priorities through data.
- Proactive self-starter, comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy, with the ability to identify the highest-value opportunities for analytical investment.
- Experience partnering with senior stakeholders, comfortable influencing and challenging thinking through evidence-based insight.
- Experience leading, mentoring and developing analytical capability across teams, including line management of more junior analysts.
