LOCATION: Plymouth
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600 – £30,000 per annum, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
We are looking for a creative and dynamic producer to work across programmes, finding and telling the stories that people want to share with their friends. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the sound of Devon. Finding brilliant guests, supporting the presenter to respond to breaking news and delivering stories you’ve found and worked up will set the SW agenda. News reading and social production shifts will also be part of this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Work across BBC Radio Devon programmes, news bulletins and social content to help the BBC connect with its audience in Devon.
- Set the daily agenda by finding, researching and briefing presenters; provide editorial and production support in the studio.
- Prepare and deliver timed bulletins for Devon and Cornwall, working to tight deadlines and maintaining the highest editorial standards.
- Drive high-impact content across platforms, support presenters with compelling material, and ensure journalism reflects the communities we serve.
- Liaise closely with other departments in the BBC to ensure output material is shared, duplication is avoided and best practice is upheld.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience as a journalist with significant recent experience and strong editorial judgement, able to generate and develop accurate, impartial journalism tailored to different audiences.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, able to prioritise effectively, manage deadlines and contribute to team workflows.
- Proven experience building productive working relationships and contributing positively to a collaborative, inclusive newsroom culture.
- Comfortable writing and producing content for radio and reading timed news bulletins, also appearing on air when required, live or pre‐recorded.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Significant recent experience as a journalist, working in a professional capacity with a good knowledge of audio production techniques and newsreading.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across the newsroom in a team and under own initiative.
- A positive and tenacious attitude to enable effective story research, setting up case studies for live interviews and recording.
- Sound editorial judgment.
- Effective planning and organising skills, delivering consistently to deadlines and ability to work across several stories at a time.
