Location: Hybrid: to be based at one of the Tier 1 offices (London, Cardiff, Birmingham, Salford, Glasgow, Belfast). Some travel required to event/production/office sites.

Proposed Salary Range: £43,000- £47,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of the Role

Provide expert safety advice across the BBC, supporting teams to manage risk effectively in a fast-paced and creative environment. As a Safety Advisor, you will enable productions and business areas to meet their safety responsibilities, ensuring compliance with legislation while delivering practical, proportionate guidance that supports safe and successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities and Impact

  • Provide high-quality safety advice through the Safety Advice Line and wider advisory services.
  • Support productions and business teams to identify risks and implement effective, proportionate controls.
  • Ensure compliance with safety legislation and internal policies across operational activities.
  • Support incident investigations, identifying root causes and driving timely improvements.
  • Use safety data and insight to support better decision making and continuous improvement.

Essential Criteria

  • NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and risk management principles.
  • Experience delivering practical health and safety advice within a complex organisation.
  • Ability to use safety data and develop clear, proportionate and workable solutions.
  • Strong communication, influencing and training delivery skills across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent comprehension ability to read and understand policies/guidelines etc.
  • Excellent Microsoft365 skills (e.g. Planner, MS Teams meetings, Co-Pilot).

Desired but Not Required

  • Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH).
  • Experience supporting media, production or events-based environments.
  • Experience in incident investigation and causation analysis.
  • Strong planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to interpret and use safety data to drive improvement.
  • Recognised training qualification (e.g. Train the Trainer).
