WHY JOIN THE TEAM?
Communications sits at the heart of BBC Studios, working with every part of the business to develop, shape and share the story of our organisation and its success, while defending the reputation of the BBC against dis- and mis-information.
Our job is to interpret the vision of our stakeholders and help external and internal audiences understand what they are trying to achieve. To do this, we employ creativity, great writing and enormous flair.
As an apprentice, youâll get to use your talent to write and pitch stories and ideas to journalists, find engaging ways of explaining to our staff whatâs been going on, and advise colleagues on the best methods, tone and phrasing to speak to their audiences.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
As a Junior Journalist Apprentice, this is a brilliant opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute â you will:
- Work with PR colleagues to develop your understanding of what makes a PR story and the broad range of tools we employ to reach a diverse audience both outside and inside the organisation
- Learn how to break down complex information and create digestible and relevant news stories, newsletters, briefs and digital posts that will pique the interest of news reporters, attract the attention of digital users and engage members of staff
- Build a portfolio of techniques that help you ask the right questions to get to the nub of a story
- Develop a long-lasting network of contacts that includes internal stakeholders and journalists.
Youâll study for an industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on and off the job. This means as an apprentice (JRA26), you will follow the Level 5 Journalist Apprenticeship standard (curriculum) and work towards an industry recognised qualification, the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism. This is assessed through exams and course work.
