This is a hands‑on leadership position with responsibility for technical direction, team development, delivery excellence, and senior stakeholder engagement, while remaining actively involved in delivering high‑impact data solutions.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM The Strategy & Business Intelligence team supports BBC Studios Ad Sales by driving commercial growth, business performance, and future capability through strategic insight, trusted data, connected commercial platforms, and high‑quality business intelligence. This is a hands‑on leadership role with responsibility for setting technical direction, building team capability, ensuring delivery excellence, and managing senior stakeholder relationships. The successful candidate will not only lead and develop the team but will also be expected to make a significant personal contribution to the design, development, and delivery of data, analytics, and BI solutions. Working closely with business and technology stakeholders, they will help shape strategy while remaining actively involved in execution.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Own and evolve the BI Data Solutions strategy and roadmap for BBC Studios Ad Sales, prioritising data products, analytical capabilities and platform improvements according to commercial value, user needs and strategic objectives.
- Lead the design and delivery of scalable BI data solutions across the commercial lifecycle, including trusted data models, reusable datasets, reporting foundations and self‑service analytical capabilities.
- Bring the team onto a centralized snowflake data lake, starting from scratch and ensuring best practices for data stewardship are implemented (data modelling, quality and governance, for example).
- Improve the consistency, accessibility and trustworthiness of commercial performance information, reducing duplicated logic and manual reporting while enabling better forecasting and decision‑making.
- Provide technical and people leadership for the BI Data Solutions team, setting clear standards for solution design, delivery, documentation, testing, data quality and ongoing support.
- Partner with Sales, Revenue Performance, Product and Technology leaders to translate commercial questions and operational needs into robust data and analytics solutions.
- Act as the senior link between Ad Sales and central data platform teams, ensuring that the Snowflake data lake, ingestion patterns and governance controls support the division’s current and future BI needs.
- Collaborating with engineers, analysts and technical teams across the BBC.
- Drive adoption, performance and continuous improvement of BI data products, champion self‑service BI capabilities, and influence investment decisions across tooling, platforms and delivery partners.
- Build and develop a high‑performing team with the analytical, data modelling and engineering skills needed to support evolving business needs.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Significant experience leading Business Intelligence, analytics, or data teams within a commercial environment, ideally across digital media, advertising, or publishing.
- Strong expertise in analytics, testing, measurement, and industry best practices.
- Strong understanding of modern data platforms, data architecture, warehousing, modelling, ETL/ELT, and engineering standards.
- Experience delivering trusted, scalable data products with strong governance, data quality, security, and compliance controls.
- Proven track record of shaping data strategy and roadmaps, translating business needs into impactful BI and analytics solutions.
- Advanced SQL skills with working knowledge of Python or other analytical programming languages.
- Experience managing third‑party vendors and technology partners to achieve business outcomes.
- Demonstrated success in establishing BI and data functions from scratch, including team design, data infrastructure, governance, and operating models, or driving complex transformation initiatives.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

- Experience working with Data Governance teams and implementing enterprise governance practices.
- Experience with data visualisation tools such as Tableau.
