PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC Scotland News is looking for a Senior Journalist Reporter to tell the high quality stories that really connect with audiences across the country. This role is split between our bases in Glasgow and Edinburgh. You’d spend the first six months working out of our Pacific Quay newsroom in Glasgow, and the next six months telling the best stories from Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh. We want to combine breaking and developing news with accessible analysis. With the rapid shift to digital, we’re building a story-led newsroom and want you to bring the best ideas and creative treatments for our well known video, online and audio platforms.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
A strong knowledge of the Scottish news agenda is key to this role. We are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in live broadcasting, a track record in creating strong original journalism and creative storytelling techniques. We want you to set the agenda. You will be regularly assigned to an on the day story setting up content from a standing start with a remit to file for online and deliver video and audio content. We expect you to be able to ensure a full diversity of voices, meeting high journalistic standards and observing the BBC Editorial Guidelines.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- A strong knowledge of Scottish law and politics
- Experience in live broadcasting
- A track record of original work
- An understanding of different expectations from video, online and audio teams
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Video and Audio Editing Skills
- An understanding of Health and Safety requirements
- Ability to work effectively as a member of more than one team, leading where required and resolving conflicts as necessary.
