LOCATION: Dock House, Salford – office based

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £24,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

INTERVIEW PROCESS: Interviews will be held in 2 parts: An initial group interview where you will be asked to complete a task in small teams, with an opportunity to ask the hiring manager questions about the role. Successful candidates will then be invited to a formal values & behaviours based interview. Successful candidates will be required to start on Wednesday 9th September. Please be aware that during November (the two weeks either side of our appeal show), working hours will follow a shift pattern between 8:00am and 8:00pm. We will do our best to create a rota that accommodates individual preferences where possible; however, due to the needs of the role, we cannot guarantee that all requests can be met.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: BBC Children in Need believes that every child should have the chance to thrive and be the best they can be. Our Supporter Experience Team help to enable this by offering exceptional customer service to everyone who gets in touch with us; whether they’re looking to fundraise, donate, have a query or an issue, buy something from our online shop or just want information on what we do. Our Supporter Experience Assistant is a key role during our busy appeal season and will be responsible for helping to deliver first class stewardship to our supporters. This role involves the safe handling and transportation of our Pudsey suits, which are large and not suitable for travel via public transport. The successful candidate will need to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to appropriate transport to move the suits between our cleaning provider and an off-site storage facility. They will also carry out visual inspections to ensure the suits are in good, usable condition and have been cleaned to the required standard. You will work alongside a small number of highly supportive Supporter Experience and Fundraising colleagues whilst also getting the chance to learn from a wide range of teams within the charity who are united in their desire to help children and young people.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Lead the logistics of Pudsey Suit bookings, including managing and maintaining the booking schedule.
  • Arrange, track, and chase courier collections and deliveries.
  • Coordinate suit cleaning and ensure suits are returned in good condition.
  • Liaise with storage company regarding stock levels, access and returns.
  • Obtain and organise all relevant paperwork, including courier documentation and costs.
  • Ensure all processes run smoothly during peak periods and escalating issues when needed.
  • Act as the first point of contact for fundraisers, donors, online-shop customers and potential partner enquiries.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and provide detailed, accurate information by telephone, letter, e-mail and via social media.
  • Record all interactions accurately and clearly in our supporter database and refer appropriate enquiries.
  • Protect the Charity’s reputation and act as a champion for the BBC’s UK Charity.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Strong organisational skills, ideally with experience in logistics coordination, scheduling or managing moving parts across multiple teams.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to use suitable transport to safely move and check large items between locations, maintaining high standards of care and presentation.
  • Proven customer service, administration or fundraising experience with excellent communication skills.
  • A genuine team player who can contribute effectively to the team as well as the ability to work independently with acute attention to detail and experience of working to tight deadlines.
  • Experience of working with MS Office and social media platforms.
  • Experience of keeping track of a large number of projects and stakeholders simultaneously.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Experience working with couriers, storage providers or similar operational partners or transferable skills.
  • Familiarity with CRM data systems.
  • Previous experience in a charity or not-for-profit organisation.
  • Experience with handling difficult conversations with supporters or customers.
