PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As part of the Audiences team for Children’s and Education you will be responsible for helping to shape the BBCs content and services for future generations.

You will be working with the two biggest children’s brands in the UK, CBeebies and CBBC.

It isn’t just TV channels, it’s video, audio, gaming and more.

The role supports the children’s brands and supports the wider BBC to understand how children are consuming media at the BBC and across the market.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

This role is responsible for providing regular data, research and insight, while supporting much loved children’s brands to continue to serve their audiences brilliantly in the face of significant shifts in media consumption.

Now is a great time to join the team and help identify how we can continue to grow and best serve our audience’s media needs.

  • YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Report into the Head of Audience Research for Children’s and Education within a small team of researchers.

The team is part of a wider department of more than 100 researchers, planners and analysts who work collaboratively across audiences, platforms and genres.

  • Conduct quantitative analysis and measurement of the BBC’s children’s offer on linear, i Player and digital platforms; strong quantitative skills are essential.
  • Analyse performance data for children’s programmes on market‑leading UK channels, track media trends among young audiences and contribute to the BBC’s understanding of children’s media lives.

Work alongside commissioning teams to support the creation of the best content for children.

  • Deliver a qualitative research programme to understand children’s opinions and perceptions of new BBC‑created content.

Run this with a specialist research agency, capture stakeholder needs, translate those into research briefs and create engaging discussion guides for children.

  • Communicate insights in an inspirational way, working with divisions across the BBC to bring audience insight into decision‑making.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Specific knowledge of, and/or experience of managing, quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Experience of working with media industry data sources (e. g. BARB, You Tube Analytics) and digital datasets.
  • Ability to build and maintain helpful, productive working relationships, working cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Ability to build close relationships with senior or divisional partners to successfully influence strategic and creative decision‑making.
  • Capability to transform research into insights and action, weaving multiple datasets into a coherent narrative.

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
