Purpose of the Role
The Commercial Director is a critical senior position in the Scripted division of BBC Studios, focused on maximising commercial opportunities for our Scripted projects. Working closely with our portfolio of production labels and producers, the Commercial Director will help build sales strategies, source and develop relationships with potential co‑production partners, and work closely with the Sales team for deficit financing and accessing soft money globally.
Key Responsibilities and Impact
- Lead commercial strategy for the scripted slate, building robust financing plans across the portfolio.
- Partner with producers and label leads to secure co‑production funding and investment.
- Structure, negotiate and deliver high‑value deals with broadcasters, streamers, talent and partners.
- Identify and maximise the commercial value of IP and development pipeline opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with global co‑production partners and investors.
- Collaborate with Finance, Business Affairs and senior leadership to ensure clear and timely deal delivery.
- Drive new business opportunities and contribute to wider strategic growth and market positioning.
Skills and Experience
Essential Criteria
- Proven senior leadership experience within scripted TV, working with premium IP and talent‑led projects.
- Detailed, expert understanding and experience of sales and distribution, co‑production partnerships, and all commercial aspects of producing, selling and acquiring content.
- Strong track record of structuring and negotiating complex, high‑value deals.
- Deep understanding of scripted television financing, commissioning and production models.
- Established network across global broadcasters, financiers and co‑production partners.
- Experience working across both UK and international scripted markets.
- Expert knowledge of current and emerging trends in global content financing and distribution.
- Experience leading and developing high‑performing teams.
- Evidence of excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.

- Background working in a matrixed global organisation.
