PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600 - £37,600 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience + London Weighting. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. We’re happy to discuss flexible working.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Are you a digital creator with expertise in teaching English as a foreign language? Can you bring English language lessons to life in audio and video formats through your presentation style? Do you understand the difference between teaching English in a classroom and teaching English through digital platforms? If your answers are YES, then we may have a job for you.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

BBC Learning English is the award‑winning English language teaching arm of BBC World Service. The department primarily produces and publishes digital content for English language learners on its website, though podcasts and via its social media platforms. It also syndicates content to partner networks.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Support the delivery of BBC Learning English’s digital-first strategy to help audiences learn English.
  • Work as part of a team of experienced English language teaching professionals to originate, create, present and publish English language teaching audio, video, text and image-based content for language learners.
  • Collaborate with the podcast, social media and China teams to ensure all products achieve high levels of valued reach among audiences.
  • Participate in and work across other areas of BBC Learning English’s output as required.
  • Shift work may be required, which could include nights, weekends and public holidays.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • An advanced-level ELT qualification, for example a DELTA or Masters in a relevant subject.
  • Full professional proficiency in the English language including complete comprehension and productive competence in written and spoken forms, and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to write, adapt and edit scripts with accuracy, clarity, simplicity and in an engaging style appropriate to a diverse international audience with differing levels of English comprehension.
  • Demonstrable experience of creating and delivering impactful and engaging English as a foreign language multimedia teaching materials for digital platforms.
  • Experience in using image, audio and video editing tools.
  • Recent experience teaching English as a foreign language to adults, for example, in a language school or online setting.
  • An awareness of BBC Learning English’s methodologies and approaches.
