- LOCATION: UK Wide - Hybrid - The role is not office based (working from an office is available if required, but not essential), but there will be a requirement to travel to different BBC’s bases as required.
- PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £50,000- £60,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This role offers the opportunity to influence how products, platforms and enterprise systems are designed, procured and delivered, ensuring accessibility is built in from the start, shaping how accessibility is delivered at scale across the BBC. You’ll work across diverse teams and technologies, driving meaningful change that improves experiences for colleagues and audiences while developing your own strategic and technical expertise.

Join the BBC’s Accessibility team at a pivotal moment as we embed accessibility into how we design, build and procure technology. As a Senior Accessibility Specialist, you’ll play a key role in shaping accessible experiences across internal systems and digital products, influencing suppliers and stakeholders, and helping move accessibility from compliance to a core organisational capability.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
- Lead accessibility across complex products and enterprise systems, ensuring inclusive experiences for all users.
- Embed accessibility into product lifecycles, working with design, engineering and product teams from discovery through to delivery.
- Influence procurement and supplier management by defining requirements, assessing risk and driving accessible outcomes.
- Act as a senior advisor to stakeholders, balancing accessibility, delivery timelines and business priorities.
- Build accessibility capability across teams through guidance, training and mentoring.
- Drive continuous improvement in accessibility practices, contributing to standards, governance and maturity.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE – KEY CRITERIA
- Strong experience in accessibility testing using assistive technologies and manual techniques.
- Expert knowledge of WCAG 2.2, WAI-ARIA, HTML and CSS.
- Experience embedding accessibility into product development and delivery processes.
- Ability to influence and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working with suppliers or contributing to procurement and accessibility assurance.
- Experience working with enterprise systems (e.g. HR, finance, SaaS platforms).
- Understanding of accessibility maturity models or organisational capability building.
- Experience delivering accessibility training or enablement programmes.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards such as EN 301 549 or ATAG.
- Experience working in complex, multi-team or large-scale environments.
- Experience exploring or applying AI tools to support accessibility, such as automated testing, content generation, or improving usability for assistive technology users.
