You’ll learn on‑the‑job, developing your knowledge and skills in an area that interests you, while working towards your apprenticeship qualification with one of our learning providers.

WHY JOIN THIS SCHEME?

This is your chance to launch a career at the very heart of British broadcasting. We’re looking for individuals with a passion to find out how we make content and bring ideas to life. This is your opportunity to widen your production knowledge while working on content that matters to millions.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM?

BBC Radio Wales is the national Welsh language radio station. We produce 140 hours of output a week and are passionate about creating radio that sits at the heart of Welsh life. We entertain our listeners while informing and educating them – and we want to go further than that: we’ll surprise our audience, delight them – not just sometimes, but every day. We’re the home of a diverse range of presenters including Jason Mohammad, Bronwen Lewis and Behnaz Akhgar. We’re warm, we’re welcoming, and hearing from and interacting with our listeners is an essential part of our daily output. Whether your interest lies in music, features, journalism, drama or comedy, this department’s offer is varied and exciting. Your schedule will be flexible and you will be required to work across daytime, late evenings and weekends.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Preparing live and pre‑recorded programmes in studio and on location
  • Developing research and production skills
  • Providing comprehensive support for all aspects of programme production
  • Creating multi‑platform content across all Radio Wales programmes
  • Working as part of a team and seeing your creative ideas come to life
  • Developing studio operation skills

You’ll be learning both on and off the job. This means that as well as learning on your placement at the BBC, you’ll also attend learning blocks (a week or two at a time) with our learning provider, working towards an industry‑recognised qualification, Level 3 Diploma in Digital and Creative Media. Learning blocks will be delivered in‑person.

YOUR SKILLS AND ELIGIBILITY

We’re interested in your passion for working at the BBC and your enthusiasm for delivering world‑class content and operational excellence to our audiences. We’re not focused on your qualifications; instead we look for potential and the opportunity to apply your transferable strengths and experience to work in different ways. If you can bring some of these skills and experiences, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.

We are looking for:

  • Self‑motivation and the ability to work independently to meet deadlines.

  • Good communication skills – effective ways of conveying information and collaborating with others.
  • Attention to detail – accurate record‑taking and completing tasks.
  • Adaptability – adjusting to new situations quickly and efficiently.
  • Creativity – coming up with new and creative ideas.
