PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The role provides financial control and support across a slate of productions, ensuring budgets are managed accurately from set up through to final accounts. It delivers timely, reliable financial information to help production teams make informed decisions and maintain strong cost control. The role upholds BBC policies and compliance standards, supports effective forecasting, and contributes to continuous improvements within Finance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the financial control of a slate of productions or provide dedicated support to more complex titles, ensuring accurate budgeting throughout the lifecycle.
- Deliver timely, reliable financial information, including regular cost reports, forecasts, budgeting accruals and commitments to support effective decision making.
- Monitor expenditure against budget, highlight potential overspends, and ensure accurate reflection of costs within BBC accounting systems.
- Maintain strong controls and compliance by completing statutory returns, managing audit trails, handling location banking, and adhering to BBC policies.
- Support continuous improvement within Finance, adopting best practice and developing own skills to meet future career needs.
- Partner closely with non‑finance production colleagues to support their use of accounting systems and processes, providing guidance and training where required to ensure accurate financial management.
- Translate financial information into clear, accessible insights for non‑finance stakeholders to support informed decision‑making.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Production finance expertise – experience in media‑sector production finance, including conventions, cost drivers, and accurate forecasting.
- Budget management – ability to control production budgets through detailed monitoring, reporting, and clear communication with non‑financial stakeholders.
- Editorial impact awareness – understanding how editorial decisions affect financial outcomes and the implications of different options.
- Cross‑functional collaboration – proven ability to support and guide non‑finance colleagues in applying financial processes and understanding reports.
- Systems and stakeholder capability – experience with project forecasting (e.g., SAP) and confidence supporting stakeholders, including those managing third‑party financial service providers.
DESIRABLE
- Professional Accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
