ABOUT BBC STUDIOS
A globally renowned media company borne of the BBC. We make and distribute the world’s most sought-after TV, audio and digital content.
Our ambition is to be the home of the most powerful, entertaining, and inspiring stories for people all around the world.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM?
The Strategy & Business Intelligence team supports BBC Studios Ad Sales by driving commercial growth, business performance and future capability through strategic insight, trusted data, connected commercial platforms and high-quality business intelligence.
This role is part of the Revenue Performance team within Strategy & Business Intelligence. The function is responsible for ensuring the EMEA sales teams are equipped with information and insights to enable them to maximise their sales efforts. The role also leads on global projects, including ensuring our rate card is priced so that the yield of our advertising inventory is optimised.
Working across Sales, Data Solutions, Product, Technology and Senior Leadership, the function spans many far-reaching areas of the business and uses this unique view to offer an important perspective on commercial decisions. It ensures pricing decisions and financial forecasts are rooted in robust data and the latest business context.
We are looking for a commercially minded and data literate Business Intelligence Manager who is enthusiastic about being involved in forecasting, sales strategy and harnessing data across multiple systems.
This is a role where curiosity and collaboration are key. Working across multiple diverse stakeholders in a broad and complicated business means great exposure and requires strong adaptability and communication skills.
Whilst regular reporting is a part of the role, we are looking for someone who can seek opportunities in automation to free up time to analyse other areas of the business and push for change. There is large scope for up-skilling in technical skills. This role has exposure to senior levels of leadership.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT :
- Forecasting: Own the regular forecasting process for EMEA, working with senior sales leads to gain insight into regional activity and distil the information into a robust financial forecast with a clear narrative.
- Pricing: Own the rate card of prices across the suite of BBC products where ads can be served, including on .com, the Global News Channel, Podcasts and YouTube. Work to keep these prices relevant and optimised to maximise the yield from Sales teams’ efforts. Be responsible for pricing any new commercial products through thorough analysis.
- Financial reporting: Work with key stakeholders in finance and across products to deliver regular financial reporting. Once reports are understood, lean into automation to minimise the workload and improve the output of these reports.
- Market analysis: Respond to ad hoc requests from EMEA sales teams to create ‘market intelligence reports’ which zoom in on a certain sector or advertiser. These should supply sales teams with the information they need to make informed strategic decisions or get them ready for a pitch.
- Dashboard creation/maintenance: Understand requirements from stakeholders and if necessary, collaborate with our data team to set up a data pipeline and create a self-serve dashboard on Tableau.
- Stakeholder management: Ensure that senior sales leads in EMEA have the information they need to do their best work. Make sure that the systems and tools we have in place are working for them, and if not, driving change through curiosity, networking and persistence.
- Team collaboration: Work with parallel roles in Singapore and New York to learn, share, and find ways to join up regional projects to deliver global benefits. Work closely with team members in strategy and data roles to drive projects forwards.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE :
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA :
- Educated to degree level in a STEM subject, or equivalent practical experience.
- Extensive work experience in a data analytics role with an exceptional track record.
- Experience in management reporting, automation and business forecasting.
- Demonstrable experience working on Excel.
- Experience with visualisation tools e.g. Tableau, PowerPoint.
- Proven experience defining and delivering project roadmaps; simplifying complex problems and translating business priorities into solutions.
- Proven ability to deliver across multiple concurrent initiatives amongst organisational complexity.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing senior leaders and building trusted cross-functional relationships.
DESIRED NOT REQUIRED :
- Experience with SQL or other analytical programming languages.
- Experience working within media, advertising, publishing or commercial sales organisations, with an understanding of industry trends and competitors.
- Experience in pricing strategy and sales optimisation.
