Purpose of the Role
We’re looking for an experienced digital commissioner/producer to lead digital across our Factual slate, including programmes such as Wild London, Sort Your Life Out and Titanic Sinks Tonight. In this role you will support the commissioning teams while also leading on original digital content for 16–24 audiences across social platforms, YouTube, Roblox and beyond, and bringing meaningful digital insight into the commissioning process. You’ll work closely with Commissioning Editors, digital teams, production companies and talent to shape strategy, oversee delivery and performance, and ensure content is editorially robust, compliant, and platform-native from inception to publication. This is a maternity cover role, ideal for someone who combines strong editorial judgment with creative ambition, stakeholder management skills and hands‑on commissioning and production experience delivering original YouTube content and audience growth across digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities and Impact
- Represent the genre with internal and external partners, working closely with Commissioning Editors, independent companies and talent to advise on strategy and oversee YouTube-first digital content, implementing relevant Commercial Rights and Business Affairs policies.
- Support Commissioning Editors in managing and fostering relationships with on‑screen and digital talent, identifying and developing YouTube-native creators and emerging digital voices, and contributing to initiatives such as BBC Creator Lab.
- Develop and produce creative routes for engaging 16–24 audiences across digital platforms, including shaping original YouTube formats and driving gaming and immersive commissions in line with divisional strategy.
- Work closely with the commissioning team, bringing digital insight and creative vision into commissioning and production cycles with internal and external partners.
- Commission, coordinate and oversee digital and social content aligned with Youth Audiences digital strategy, acting as editorial lead for specific social, YouTube and immersive commissions, coordinating production, delivery, distribution and compliance as required.
- Work with relevant teams to set contractual digital requirements for commissioned titles, including digital specific deliverables and oversee delivery of digital assets.
- Provide compliance and sign‑off support where appropriate across the genre slate, ensuring digital content meets Editorial Policy and compliance standards.
Skills and Experience
- Proven track record ideating, pitching and commissioning digital content across formats and platforms, including YouTube‑first originals, with demonstrable success engaging younger audiences.
- Significant expertise in social, digital media and SVOD, with strong understanding of channel strategy, digital touchpoints, audience development and analytics.
- Demonstrable experience commissioning, publishing and optimising Factual digital content, including compliance and duty of care.
- Experience driving innovation projects within a team or organisation.
- Strong editorial judgment with the ability to develop ideas and stimulate creativity in others.
- Highly developed relationship‑management skills, with the ability to collaborate, influence and reconcile differing perspectives.
- Strong problem‑solving, strategic and project‑management skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver at pace.
- Mastery of editorial guidelines, standards and digital policy.
- Experience working with creative and digital technology teams, with a good grasp of digital tools and pipelines.
