We’re looking for 2 senior charity leaders to join the BBC’s Appeals Advisory Committee to replace members whose terms have ended. The AAC is a voluntary body of 12 independent charity experts who advise the BBC’s Executive Committee on policy, risk, and best practice in broadcast appeals.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on general policy matters for broadcast appeals.
- Scrutinise and select charities for regular broadcast appeal slots.
- Advise on risks related to governance, finance, and strategy of beneficiary charities and partners such as BBC Children in Need, BBC Media Action, Disasters Emergency Committee, St Martin-in-the-Fields, and Comic Relief.
- Provide best‑practice advice on fundraising and fund‑management.
- Attend four full AAC meetings per year (≈3 h each) and four sub‑committee meetings (≈2 h each) and review related papers.
- Offer expertise on other matters as requested outside meetings.
Requirements
- Executive leadership role in a charity (CEO, Senior Director, etc.).
- Expertise in at least two of: social policy, finance, fundraising, grantmaking, legal issues, monitoring and evaluation.
- Specialist knowledge of environment and conservation or generalist experience with social welfare, homelessness, or cultural fields.
- Financial expertise is desirable.
- Awareness of public‑service role of broadcast appeals and commitment to accountability framework.
