About The Role

We are looking to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Manager in the UK renewable energy industry, ideally across both onshore wind (required) and solar PV (desirable). The (hybrid) role can be based in the Edinburgh or Glasgow office but will entail extensive travel to other offices and to sites located throughout the UK & Ireland. The successful candidate will report directly to the UK Head of Health, Safety, Quality and Environment.

The role entails staying up to date with guidance regarding HSE topics relevant for the UK portfolio of projects, to ensure that BayWa r.e.'s policies, guidance and implementation is updated to reflect regulatory changes and evolving best practice, and to support their monitoring of the activities over the full project life cycle (project development, construction and operations) to ensure we operate in a safe, responsible and sustainable manner.

What You Will Do

  • You will be responsible for supporting the Managing Directors and Head of Health, Safety, Quality and Environment to ensure the IMS and company policies are maintained and updated.
  • You will be responsible for monitoring and auditing activities to ensure works are carried out under this IMS and in compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental Regulations.
  • You will support project managers and subcontractors in implementing and adhering to the IMS.
  • You will be responsible for arranging training, where necessary, on aspects of the IMS.
  • You will be required to liaise with consultants who may be engaged from time to time to further develop the IMS.
  • You will be required to carry out Safety Walks on the company’s portfolio’s.
  • You will provide support in creation and review of Risk assessments and developing the preventative and proactive measures and the control measures associated with them.
  • You will conduct IMS audits both internal and by subcontractor.
  • You will review audit findings with the Project Managers and support closure of action items.
  • You will lead in carrying out investigations into any Hazardous Observations / Near Misses or incidents that may occur on any of the projects, reporting findings and monitoring corrective actions.
  • You will maintain and collect health and safety statistics at legal entity and project level, analysing and reporting trends to Project Managers, UK Operations Manager and Managing Directors.
  • You will maintain records to demonstrate ongoing compliance with IMS and relevant ISO accreditation(s).
  • You will support responsible departments to establish adequate HSE subcontractor management.
  • You will support responsible departments on Client and Key Stakeholder monthly/Quarterly HSE reporting and meetings.
  • You will keep abreast of developments in good practice and regulations and advise UK Head of Operations/Managing Directors as appropriate.
  • You will provide reporting to the UK Head of Health, Safety, Quality and Environment and Client.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate.
  • NEBOSH National Construction Certificate. (Desirable)
  • Proven track record in Health and Safety in Wind farms and or Solar parks.
  • Member of IOSH (CMIOSH desirable).
  • Proven track record in managing compliance with CDM 2015.
  • Knowledge of Operations/ Construction of Wind/ PV business.
  • Electrical background is an advantage.
  • Enthusiasm for subject area and ability to motivate others to buy into processes and procedures.
  • Customer oriented.
  • Attention to detail, particularly in terms of record keeping and documentation.
  • Solutions focused with a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent personal skills and ability to build trust and respect within teams.
  • Ability to work closely and effectively with a team and clients.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good IT skills in word / excel.
  • Naturally well prepared and organised, able to deal with competing priorities, manage a diverse workload and meet targets and deadlines.
  • Drivers licence.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
