We are seeking a dedicated crime and court reporter to provide accurate, contemporaneous, and impartial coverage of court and inquest proceedings. This role is critical to upholding the principle of open justice, ensuring transparency and accountability, and informing the public about legal decisions that impact our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and report on inquests, court hearings, trials, and legal proceedings
  • Report on the status of criminal investigations, regional crime data, and Thames Valley Police initiatives
  • Produce clear, concise, and engaging articles for both print and digital platforms
  • Verify facts and maintain the highest standards of accuracy and impartiality
  • Ensure all stories are legally and ethically compliant
  • Collaborate with editors to prioritise stories that resonate with readers and drive engagement
  • Utilise social media and digital tools to amplify coverage and interact with readers

Qualifications

  • An NCTJ qualification or similar
  • Experience covering court and inquest proceedings
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to understand and explain complex legal concepts in accessible language
  • Strong legal knowledge and a commitment to ethical reporting
  • Ability to engage with the public on the importance of open justice and freedom of the press
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with tight deadlines
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a car are required
