Bayley and Sage is a small group of 14 independent stores filling the fridges and hearts of local communities across London. The company has provided delicious food to our communities since 1997, we are proud of our quality and provenance, and we would like to expand our team with the role of Maintenance Manager.
Role Overview
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations across the business, ensuring the effective upkeep of offices, retail premises, commercial buildings, residential flats, grounds and maintenance team vehicle(s). This role includes planning and scheduling maintenance tasks, supervising maintenance staff, and responding promptly to maintenance-related issues and emergencies to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Check and respond to the repair log; schedule the maintenance team by priority.
- Co‑ordinate regular reviews of outstanding actions and prioritise.
- Manage maintenance team members daily repair duties.
- Schedule contractors for major repairs as required.
- Schedule and organise the regular in‑house clean of all chiller cabinets, freezers, awnings, pavements, and rear yards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and identify areas requiring extra maintenance work, discussing maintenance concerns with the Property Director.
- Perform minor on‑site repairs.
- Stay on‑call and respond to emergency maintenance needs.
- Organise and approve the purchase of materials and equipment as required.
- Complete a full equipment audit annually, upload new items, maintain the asset register and check for fit for purpose.
- Regularly inspect and maintain the maintenance team vehicle(s).
- Manage and facilitate external contractors on all scheduled service/maintenance agreements and repairs, maintaining records of service visits.
- Support relevant property projects such as new store openings and refits, providing support to store teams.
- Manage estate insurance.
- Obtain and monitor monthly electricity readings, submissions, and bill checks.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and maintain a database of local third‑party tradespersons including electricians, plumbers, carpenters, furniture makers, painters & decorators, etc.
We Require the Following
- Previous experience of F&M coordination, preferably in a Retail environment.
- Strong organisation and prioritisation skills with the ability to multitask whilst maintaining attention to detail in a fast‑paced retail environment.
- Flexible and agile approach with great use of initiative.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and build relationships internally and externally.
- Experience in building systems such as HVAC, Fire Safety, electrical and general maintenance.
- Knowledge and understanding of compliance legislation and Health and Safety practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to provide weekend and out‑of‑hours support for emergency maintenance issues.
