Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is based in Goodwood (near Chichester).
The Role: All Rolls-Royce Motor Cars feature the ultimate ‘piano finish’ paint specification as standard. The spectrum of colours and exterior finish of our customer’s cars is beyond most people’s imagination of what is possible. The colour of a vehicle has a powerful impact. The greatest demands are made of the exterior surface centre to ensure that the highest standards are met. Sustainability and our impact on the environment are important considerations. This is on top of pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Simultaneously coating and painting materials such as aluminium, steel and composites is illustrative of the sophisticated work that our team accomplish.
The 3-year apprenticeship programme is designed to support you to gain experience and understanding of the following areas:
- Body inspection
- Surface cleaning and panel preparation
- Paint application
- Two-tone masking
- Sanding and polishing
- Final inspection and defect rectification
- Identifying causes of failure
- Improvements to process
- Use of efficient working practices to maintain on time delivery
The academic aspect of this apprenticeship is highly specialised and for this reason, you will attend Thatcham College on ‘block release’. This means that you will complete a 1-week block at college approximately every 8-12 weeks. Thatcham College is accessible by car or rail. Support with travel, accommodation and expenses is available as standard. At the end of the apprenticeship, you will have gained specialised knowledge as a vehicle damage paint technician.
Craft Skills: Car design and creation at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is like nothing else in the industry. The apprenticeship features a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience of all aspects of car design and creation. You will spend 2 days per week (in the first term) completing a ‘craft skills’ course which includes woodwork, sewing, mechanics, metal work and CAD. During this time, you will work towards the following qualifications: Health and Safety, Preparing to Learn, Reflective Practice, and Electrical Vehicle Awareness.
Who are we looking for? Demonstrative experience of teamwork is very important for this apprenticeship (gained in sports, social or community clubs for example). It is also beneficial for you to have the following qualities:

All training and skills required for this role are delivered in college and on site. There are many areas within the exterior surface centre where you can lend your skills and develop your interests. It’s important to us to get the right person in the role, who has an interest in one or more of the following areas: Rolls-Royce, the car industry, artistry, graphics, bodywork, and detailing cars.
Required Qualifications: English and Maths GCSE at grade 4 is required.
