The Product Design Scientist is a key influencer of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for leveraging genomic, phenomic, and environmental data to design improved germplasms. They are expected to lead the delivery of enhanced seed products, data insights, and prescriptions to the Product Development pipeline through utilization of accelerated breeding schemes and innovations in genomics, quantitative genetics, computational biology, and functional genomics.
- Provide leadership to coordinate the technical strategy for designing improved germplasm cohorts;
- Leverage model outputs to achieve measurable improvement of quantitative traits under selection;
- Function as a key stakeholder to drive strong collaborative relationships with various teams to deliver a robust product pipeline;
- Ensure meaningful knowledge and data transfer during transition points per crop cycle timelines;
- Proactively identify key areas of opportunity for new technology implementation and process improvement;
- Integrate and lead projects/initiatives with partner teams across world regions to guide development and implementation of Precision Breeding;
- Attract and develop talent, serving as a mentor for peers or colleagues in key areas of expertise;
- Support the Health Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct, and Human Rights policies and culture.
Who You Are
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
- Master’s degree in Genetics, Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Data Science, or other relevant scientific fields;
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to achieve common goals;
- Demonstrated experience leading and influencing activities of cross-functional teams without direct reporting relationships;
- Ability to lead and influence key stakeholders through challenges and opportunities, facilitating solutions;
- Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously;
- Experience in the analysis of large biological data sets, quantitative genetics, biostatistics, and functional genomics;
- Coding experience in R, Python, or similar software;
- Strong collaboration ability demonstrated through building cross-functional partnerships and influencing others to drive results and solve business problems;
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Genetics, Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Data Science, or other relevant scientific fields with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience;
- Master’s degree in Genetics, Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Data Science, or other relevant scientific field with 10+ years of experience in breeding programs, genetics, or applied data science projects.
