The incumbent will be directly responsible for realisation of the strategy & business direction for the digital learning innovation and instructional design environment within PH R&D. This will be achieved by:

  • Directly leading and defining the Instructional design framework and managing assigned resource responsible for the technical programming, code, art direction and testing of Digital Learning & Communication deliverables for PH R&D.
  • Continually expanding and multiplying the footprint of knowledge on forward-looking learning technologies and methods of Instructional design within the frame of digital learning across PH R&D.

Scope (global, regional or local): Global. Direct deliverables of the R&D Training function are applicable to all PH R&D global functions plus interface functions within PH, R&D, CMO QSM, MA&PV, Commercial, etc., as well as country locations in all operating locations (10,000+ users). Adequate training and demonstration of operational qualification is one of the key elements of the overall risk management, legal/compliance and license to operate framework within Bayer. Delivered learning events will directly lead to capability improvements in operational practice throughout the whole of PH R&D and beyond. Therefore, this position significantly contributes to the performance, efficiency, productivity and compliance status of the whole organisation.

Key Tasks:

  • Act as expert design consultant and driver on the application of digital learning concepts and technical design methodologies as a critical member/co-lead of Global Learning Event Development teams and the R&D Learning Community.
  • Champion and multiply expertise for forward looking learning industry innovation and external benchmarking in the field.
  • Drive selection of most appropriate authoring technology to meet the goals of cost efficiency, learner engagement and innovation for a given e-learning/digital intervention.
  • Manage and lead storyboard design and subsequently coordinate and oversee all programming, build and art direction activities for e-learning/digital content across a broad range of subject matter.
  • Ensure and enforce full quality control and user acceptance testing on all digital learning resources to ensure products meet RDLA technical quality targets, SCORM/AICC standards, programming/code consistency and are aligned to the RDLA brand.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend solutions to improve functionality and impact of RDLA digital deliverables.
  • Continually expand knowledge base and technical expertise on forward looking technologies, both in terms of rapid and bespoke authoring capability and options to enhance the learning environment supporting the LMS platform (e.g., xAPI capability, LRS, adaptive learning, AI/Machine Learning etc.).
  • Define, describe and ensure future proofing of all RDLA Instructional design guides, including design theory whitepapers, and technical specification & authoring manuals, digital learning design templates and image and branding libraries to reflect continually advancing digital innovations.
  • Lead R&D Learning Community Digital infrastructure and standardisation projects as nominated, to proactively achieving the goal of continuous improvement of digital learning processes, practices, tools and standards.

How to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Instructional Design/Learning Technologies.
  • 5+ years work experience in a senior digital design/E-learning role or lower-level qualification.
  • 8+ years relevant work experience with proven promotion path.
  • Extensive experience of the application of innovative and interactive authoring and learning environment technologies, demonstrated via a strong portfolio of digital learning and communication design campaigns.
  • Proven advanced capability in a wide range of digital authoring and creative design tools, specific experience and advanced proficiency in innovative learning technologies including HTML 5, Adobe creative suite including Aftereffects, Video production, Articulate storyline, Captivate and similar market leaders is considered essential.
  • Practical bespoke application of Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality and xAPI technologies is a distinct advantage.
  • Expert level understanding of learning theory/pedagogy and its application within digital Instructional Design.
  • High level of self-motivation and creativity, bringing enthusiasm and a solution orientated approach to the role.
  • Exceptional attention to detail supported by good organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills. Fluency in English is critical.
