We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier to join our esteemed restaurant in Newbury, United Kingdom. As our Sommelier, you will play a crucial role in elevating our guests\’ dining experience through expert wine service and pairing recommendations. You will be responsible for curating and managing our extensive wine collection while providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Curate and maintain an impressive wine list that complements our menu and enhances the overall dining experience
  • Provide expert advice to guests on wine selections, considering their preferences and budget
  • Conduct wine tastings and educational sessions for both staff and guests
  • Manage wine inventory, including ordering, stock rotation, and cellar organisation
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to create innovative food and wine pairings
  • Train and mentor service staff on wine knowledge and proper serving techniques
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of wines to maintain their quality
  • Stay informed about current wine trends, new vintages, and emerging wine regions
  • Develop and implement wine promotions and special events to increase sales and guest engagement
  • Maintain accurate records of wine sales, inventory, and guest preferences

Qualifications

  • Sommelier certification from a recognised institution (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers)
  • Extensive knowledge of wine varieties, regions, and production methods
  • Proven experience as a Sommelier in fine dining establishments
  • Excellent palate and ability to discern subtle flavour profiles
  • Strong understanding of food and wine pairing principles
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Proficiency in inventory management and wine cellar organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct engaging wine tastings and educational sessions
  • Strong analytical skills for sales tracking and inventory management
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Passion for continuous learning and staying updated on wine industry trends
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes of wine (up to 20 kg) when necessary
  • Proficiency in using wine inventory management software is desirable
