About the Role

As Sous Chef, you will support the Head Chef in the day-to-day management of the kitchen, ensuring consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, and service. You'll play a key role in motivating the team, maintaining food safety standards, and delivering innovative menus that exceed customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head Chef in managing all kitchen operations.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality dishes using fresh ingredients.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop kitchen team members.
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health and safety, and company standards.
  • Assist with menu planning, stock control, and ordering.
  • Monitor food costs and minimise waste.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment.
  • Step into the Head Chef role when required.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience as a Sous Chef or a strong Chef de Partie ready for the next step.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Has a passion for food, innovation, and excellent customer service.
  • Possesses a good understanding of food safety and health & safety regulations.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and works well under pressure.
  • Holds relevant catering or culinary qualifications (preferred).

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Professional Cookery, Culinary Arts, or equivalent qualification.
  • Food Safety Level 2 Certificate (minimum).
  • Proven experience working in a professional kitchen, ideally as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef de Partie, or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of food hygiene, HACCP, and health & safety regulations.
  • Experience in menu planning, stock control, and food cost management.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a kitchen team.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Food Safety Level 3 Certificate.
  • Advanced Health & Safety Certification.
  • Allergen Awareness Training.
  • First Aid at Work qualification.
  • Experience within contract catering, hospitality, or workplace dining environments.
