Job Description

You will support the day-to-day running of our caf /food service, primarily working on the till and within the front-of-house area. This is a customer-facing role where delivering excellent service and maintaining a clean, welcoming, and well-presented environment are key. You will take pride in the look and feel of the space-ensuring displays are well stocked, tables are clean, and standards are consistently maintained. The role requires someone proactive who can use their initiative to identify tasks, particularly during quieter periods. You will work as part of a supportive team, contributing positively to a collaborative and respectful environment where colleagues with different working styles are valued.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Operate the till and handle transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Provide a high standard of customer service at all times
  • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the front-of-house area
  • Clean and clear tables promptly to ensure a tidy, welcoming environment
  • Take initiative to replenish stock (e.g. confectionery, drinks, snacks) and maintain attractive displays
  • Assist with opening duties to prepare the area for service
  • Wash cups, pots, crockery, and utensils in line with hygiene standards
  • Support light food preparation and service when required
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, contributing to a supportive and inclusive team environment
  • Follow all food hygiene, health & safety, and cleanliness standards
  • Make productive use of quieter periods to maintain high standards throughout
  • Embrace and actively participate in the Zero Harm culture

  • Friendly and approachable, with strong customer service skills
  • Confidence in using or learning EPOS/till systems
  • Good communication skills with both customers and colleagues
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in cleanliness and presentation
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and stay productive during quieter periods
  • Proactive, with a willingness to take initiative

Qualifications

  • Food Safety Level 2 Certificate (required or willingness to achieve within probation period)
  • Basic Food Hygiene and Health & Safety awareness (desirable)
  • Allergen awareness training (desirable)
  • GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths (desirable)
  • Relevant on-the-job training or experience in a catering or hospitality environment (desirable)
  • Basic IT skills to operate EPOS/cashless till systems (desirable)
