This role exists to accelerate profitable growth of the Advanced Surgery portfolio across the Southern region by leading commercial contracting strategy and value-based procurement engagement across the NHS and Independent Healthcare sector. The Commercial Manager will be accountable for driving regional commercial performance by owning complex contracting discussions, shaping pricing and value strategies, aligned to NHS and Independent Sector priorities. Reporting directly to the Regional Sales Manager, the role partners closely with the Business Manager, Account Managers, Marketing and wider Commercial team to deliver high-quality execution of commercial strategy and enable the field team to win sustainable, compliant and profitable business.

Key Focus Areas
  • Lead regional commercial engagement with NHS Trusts, ICSS, Procurement Hubs, Framework Providers and Independent Hospital Groups.
  • Own and execute pricing, contracting and commercial strategy across regional accounts, ensuring alignment with national frameworks and compliance requirements.
  • Act as the regional expert on NHS structure, procurement routes, framework compliance and commercial governance.
  • Lead comprehensive stakeholder identification, prioritisation and engagement to drive effective project execution and ensure commercial compliance.
  • Negotiate volumes, pricing and commercial terms that maximize value and profitability for Baxter while meeting customer requirements.
  • Conduct regular business and performance reviews with framework and contract providers to identify growth, optimisation and partnership opportunities.
  • Drive regional deployment of the Advanced Surgery Advantage programme, embedding value-based procurement principles into customer conversations.
  • Translate clinical, operational and economic value into clear, compelling messages aligned to both local and national NHS priorities.
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of Advanced Surgery Advantage target accounts, including acquisition and expansion plans, in partnership with the RSM and Business Manager.
  • Support and lead value projects, including pathway optimisation, service redesign or outcome-based initiatives where appropriate.
Role Responsibilities
  • Partner with the RSM and regional sales teams to develop and deliver commercial and pricing strategies responsive to the evolving NHS and Independent Sector landscape.
  • Take ownership of key strategic accounts within the Southern region aligned to contracting and value strategy.
  • Enable field sales teams by providing expert guidance on procurement strategy, frameworks, specifications and tendering processes.
  • Provide leadership through stakeholder mapping, identifying decision‑makers, influencers and economic buyers and tailoring value propositions accordingly.
  • Analyse regional financial and commercial performance data to inform pricing decisions, investment prioritisation and risk management.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and internal stakeholders to ensure consistent, high‑quality messaging around value, outcomes and partnership.
  • Identify industry trends, policy shifts and procurement changes that may impact the Advanced Surgery portfolio and proactively adjust strategy.
  • Demonstrate visible leadership in a complex, matrix environment, influencing without authority and driving alignment across functions.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
  • Advanced commercial and negotiation capability, with experience leading structured, multistakeholder negotiations across complex customer environments.
  • Strong presentation and influencing skills, with confidence engaging senior clinical, procurement and executive stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead projects across multiple stakeholders, balancing competing priorities and driving outcomes.
  • High level of financial and commercial acumen, able to analyse data and make disciplined, evidence‑based decisions.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and autonomy, demonstrating leadership in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, to support analysis, modelling and reporting.
Must Have Experience
  • A minimum of three years’ experience working in medical device sales, dealing with senior personnel within the NHS theatre environment and procurement/ pharmacy managers.
  • Demonstrated success in acquisition of competitor business through market analysis, stakeholder engagement and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Strong commercial acumen including business planning, financial metrics, project management and negotiation.
  • Outstanding communication skills, tenacious, strong spirit and entrepreneurial approach.
  • University degree in science and/or degree in Business Marketing or Clinical Research.
  • ABPI qualification.
