18 Month Fixed Maternity Contract

We are currently looking for an experienced pharmacist, to work from our hard-working National Distribution Centre (NDC) on the Brackmills estate in Northampton. The role will involve the physical checking of all prescriptions and orders (PD, HHD and Nutrition MCB) that contain POM & P (Prescription Only Medicines & Pharmacy medicines) and ancillary items before their dispatch from NDC to patients. Working hours will be Monday to Friday – 2pm to 10pm (Weekly shift allowance provided). On call hours cover required.

Role Responsibilities

  • Ensure all POM & P medicines (PD, HHD and Nutrition MCB) are 100% checked for accuracy in product code, product description, batch, expiry date and quantity required.
  • Screen and process all Renal (PD, HHD and Travel) and Nutrition (MCB) prescriptions clinically.
  • Record all errors on designated forms and correct them. For serious errors complete a Pharmacist Intervention Form.
  • Confirm that the Renal Checking Form F04UKPHN001 and MCB Checking form has been completed with patient names, order numbers, pickers initials, pharmacy checkers name and pharmacists’ initials (for MCB labellers initials and polar track labellers initials).
  • Make sure that on all home patient orders, patient labels (pharmacist labels) are correct and are applied to every box of product and one to the box of ancillary products. All POM & P medicines must be labelled in accordance with the labelling requirements in the Medicines, Ethics and Practice guide for Pharmacists and the labelling recommendations of the NPSA.
  • Ensuring orders for both Renal and Nutrition MCB are processed on time as the need arises by the patient.
  • Work under the guidance of SOPs, GPhC and RPS standards and documents.
  • Ensure the name of the patient on the pharmacy labels matches the name on the dispatch label.
  • Check all orders in a timely manner to ensure that they meet scheduled deliveries.
  • Check all returns and complete the relevant documents.
  • Ensure a handover is completed before the end and the beginning of each shift.
  • Clinically check all Renal and Nutrition prescriptions.
  • Record all prescription errors and risk assessments and report appropriately.
  • Audit the service against set targets.
  • Provide advice on medicines and processes to patients, prescribers, and Baxter employees.
  • Ensure all complaints are followed up, investigated, run, and reported appropriately.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in pharmacy practice, medicines, and pharmacy legislation as part of their own CPD.
  • Ensure that all FMD requirements are met at point of receiving stock, dispensing and returns.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Membership of GPhC.
  • Master’s degree in pharmacy (MPharm).
  • Action on own initiative.
  • Experience in supervising staff.
  • Experienced knowledge of good dispensing and distribution practice.
  • Ability to deal with unexpected workload.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work under a changing shift pattern.
