About the Role, Your Impact
Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a Municipal Services Engineer in our Municipal Services Department. We are seeking qualified applicants for our Crystal Lake, Mokena, Naperville, Chicago, or Bannockburn IL office.
What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like
- Work with municipal staff to evaluate and develop engineering solutions.
- Act as an Engineering advisor and perform tasks as requested by the municipal staff.
- Where required, serve as part‑time staff to local municipality.
- Engage municipal staff as required by the local municipality to complete assigned tasks.
- Represent B&W in performing engineering tasks at a local municipality.
- Act as an administrative, management and capital projects resource.
- Act as a resource for B&W and Community staff.
- Respond proactively to inquiries from Village Staff and Officials, developers, designers and property owners.
- Assist with preparation, documentation and improvement of processes and procedures.
- Provide project management for key community projects.
- Prepare written reports as required by local municipality.
- Assist with inter‑governmental agreement and preparation of municipal budgets.
- Prepare and submit permits for local municipal projects.
- Review development plans for compliance with local requirements, including Stormwater management, grading, sanitary sewers, water lines, and transportation aspects.
- Coordinate work done by other departments for local municipality.
- Assess the need for permits from other agencies.
- Assess impacts to on‑site and adjacent private and public facilities.
- Provide recommendations for improving on‑site or adjacent facilities in conjunction with the development reviews.
- Prepare written development review reports; communicate with Village Staff, developers and designers.
Education / Certification Requirements
- 4‑year B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Must‑Haves, What You Will Bring
- 2+ years of experience working as an Engineer with or for local municipalities.
- 2+ years of experience providing civil engineering services for local municipalities.
- Knowledge of basic principles and experience with Stormwater management, water distribution, and wastewater collection systems, transportation facilities, including parking, roadway design, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and accessibility requirements.
- Ability to explain technical issues to non‑technical municipal staff and officials.
- Ability to work with local government staff and officials.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with developers, designers and outside permit agencies.
- Ability to travel throughout Northeastern Illinois (own transportation).
Compensation
The pay range for this role is $75,000-$90,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
