About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced Freelance Knitwear Designer to join our team on a project basis, supporting the development of upcoming womenswear knitwear collections for Baukjen. We require a designer with a strong background in luxury or premium fashion, excellent technical knowledge, and a modern, refined aesthetic that aligns with the Baukjen brand handwriting.

This is an exciting opportunity to create a new knitwear range that captures the Baukjen women and works in harmony with our brand. Creating a collection that will appeal to our relaxed, timeless aesthetic with luxury detailing, fashion nods and sustainable fabrications.

This is a remote position though you must be available to be hands on in your approach; developing swatches and attend development meetings in our London office. You will be working closely with the Design Director to curate the range to bring your cool and commercial knitwear designs to life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design a range of premium womenswear knitwear styles in line with the Baukjen brand’s aesthetic and seasonal direction.
  • Work closely with the design director to develop a cohesive knitwear range that meets the commercial and fashion needs of the brand.
  • Advise on trend, colour, yarn, stitch and women’s knitwear key items for AW26/27
  • Source yarns and develop new stitches for each collection.
  • Create detailed technical drawings and specifications suitable for sampling and production.
  • Select appropriate yarns and finishing techniques aligned with our sustainability criteria and premium quality standards.
  • Liaise with the product development team and suppliers to ensure feasibility and garment execution to a high standard.
  • Adjust designs and specifications as needed based on fit and sample review meetings and feedback.
  • Advise current on sustainability developments and innovations in knitwear.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing knitwear for luxury or premium womenswear brands
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating considered design and technical knowledge in women’s knitwear
  • Excellent understanding of yarns, gauge, stitch structure and high-end finishing
  • Ability to create detailed and accurate tech packs for sample rooms
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop
  • Experience working with spinners, suppliers and factories in Europe
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
