Our Automotive Design & Production Centre is responsible for putting together some of the country’s best‑known car and motorcycling titles, including CAR, Classic Cars, Practical Classics, Classic Car Weekly, MCN, Bike, Ride and Classic Bike. We also produce Rail – Britain’s biggest‑selling modern railway magazine.
As part of a busy, talented team of Production Editors and Designers, a main focus of your role will be helping to steer our magazines through their monthly production cycles, with support when necessary. You’ll ensure our brands are consistent and error‑free, and look good and read wonderfully for our audiences! You’ll be required to work across the titles listed above, as directed by the Group Production Lead. A knowledge of rail is welcome but not essential. This is a great opportunity for a production professional with sound consumer/B2B magazine experience and excellent time‑management skills, who can work on raw copy and designed pages with equal elan and accuracy, and who is comfortable working with editorial teams to ensure a smooth throughput of pages.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing production schedules and setting deadlines, ensuring as much as possible that there are no bottlenecks or gaps, and that the Art and Production desks are working at a manageable and consistent rate.
- Creating and amending flatplans.
- Subbing, editing and proofing raw copy, layouts and digital channels, adhering to house styles.
- Working with other departments to ensure deadlines are met on all types of pages, including marketing, commercial etc.
- Alerting the Group Production Lead or Group Editor when copy, layouts or proofs aren’t up to the required standard.
- Working closely with the Art team to ensure that layouts complement copy, and that the design and pictures work with the copy. Alerting the Group Editor to any problems with layouts.
- Final approval of pages and advertorials.
- Sending pages to print.

- An affinity with and wide knowledge of cars, motorcycles and/or rail will be essential.
- Knowledge of Monday.com, Dataplan and Woodwing.
- Ability to pivot to digital.

Working Pattern / Location
The role will be based in Peterborough, and there will be a requirement for you to attend the Peterborough office as part of a hybrid working pattern. Hybrid working pattern, with a mix of office‑based and remote working depending on team needs. Location: Peterborough, GB, PE2 6EA.
