About the role

Your role is to lead our sustainability strategy and plans to support our commitment to be a Platform for Brands and a Platform for Good. You’ll play a key part in supporting Bauer Media Outdoor UK reach its Carbon Net Zero goals, maintain compliance with legislation and regulation, lead on identifying environmental improvements and support the business in its relationship with external clients and customers. You’ll lead on sustainability issues, co-ordinating activities across departments and also support the wider Bauer Media Outdoor Europe sustainability community to deliver improved environmental performance. You’ll be our internal sustainability expert – helping teams understand our impact, follow-up on sustainability plans, and report results with confidence. Leading a small team in the UK, supporting the compliance team as subject matter expert and supporting the wider BMO Europe sustainability community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and lead the UK Sustainability strategy.
  • Engage and collaborate with BMO departments to develop a coordinated sustainability plan along with supporting policy and guidance that shapes business plans.
  • Build and present business cases to address sustainability issues for our different business departments.
  • Lead and motivate a small team responsible for BMO UK Environmental issues and BMO Europe data collation and assessment.
  • Proactively work in collaboration with Local authority and advertising clients, representing BMO on the Outsmart Operations group.
  • Support external initiatives such as the development of the Global Media Sustainability Framework (GMSF) with Ad Net Zero.
  • Draft internal policies and guidance to help our markets make more sustainable decisions – for example, when choosing partners or developing future offsetting options.
  • Responsible Person for all Environmental matters, identifying and responding to current legal and best practice requirements.
  • Lead and maintain our ISO14001 Environmental Management System – have excellent understanding of the requirements of ISO14001.
  • Key contact for sustainability-related queries - providing expert, practical guidance to colleagues across the business.

What we’re looking for…

We’re looking for a passionate and credible sustainability leader who can set direction, bring stakeholders with them, ensure compliance, and turn environmental ambition into practical action across the business — with the right mix of expertise and willingness to roll up their sleeves. You should have:

  • Proven experience developing and delivering sustainability strategies and roadmaps.
  • Strong leadership skills, motivating small specialist sustainability teams.
  • Expertise in environmental management, including ISO14001 implementation and maintenance.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental legislation and emerging regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience in carbon reduction planning, GHG and ESG reporting.
  • Skilled in building business cases and securing stakeholder buy-in.
  • Confident spokesperson; excellent written and verbal client communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience collaborating with local authorities, industry bodies and advertising clients.
  • Ability to draft practical sustainability policies, guidance and governance frameworks.
  • Strong training, facilitation and engagement skills to embed sustainability culture.
