A few years ago, we brought the construction of our advertising sites in house. Since then, the team have been extremely successful in delivering hundreds of site builds, including our newest digital units, billboards and large Storm installations. We’re excited to be working on some interesting projects this year and now looking for a Groundworker to join our growing team in our Dartford Depot.
About the role
The role will involve travelling to sites (roadsides and public areas) within the London and wider South area and will occasionally require you to work away from home along with some evening or weekend work. We’ll provide you with a van to get around and arrange accommodation for any overnight stays.
You will be working in a small team installing steel structures and digital advertising screens. Groundwork will include hand and machine excavations for large mass concrete foundations, and underground ducting works where an understanding of safe excavation techniques, including surveying for underground apparatus is essential. We are looking for someone with competence in reading technical drawings and being able to set out to line and level. You will cast mass concrete and steel foundations and finish the groundworks phase in a variety of surfacing materials ranging from top soiling/soft landscaping or hard landscaping such as slabs/pavers/tarmac or floated concrete. You would also be required to excavate around network cabling and have a working knowledge of Streetworks UK/NJUG for trenches and joint bays.
Other responsibilities
- Ability to manage your workload issued within the agreed timescales.
- Ensure that a safe site is created and maintained in accordance with the relevant Construction Phase Plan and accompanying RAMS. This can include all forms of site segregation, signing and guarding as necessary.
- Report any near misses, accidents or incidents on site to the Construction Manager/NERS assessing officer.
- Adhere to the Construction Design and Management regulations 2015.
- Knowledge of working live and working dead procedures.
- Operate machinery such as a CAT and Jenny.
- Have a working knowledge of Network Drawings and PU Drawings.
What are we looking for?
- 3-5 years' experience in excavation works involving Utilities.
- NRSWA qualified.
- Traffic Management knowledge and the understanding of correct procedures.
- Understanding of Construction Design and Management regulations 2015.
- Experience with working at height – Use of step ladders, tower scaffolding and MEMPs.
- Use of power tools such as Hydraulic breakers and disc saws and grinding wheels.
- To be able to problem solve on issues related to construction, using initiative when making decisions to enable the works to continue.
- Identification of underground services and competency using CAT scanning.
- Excavation and Sub-Structure knowledge.
- HSG47 working knowledge.
- Competent in the use of machinery.
- EUSR Utility Excavations 1-5 I and SSSTS trained would be advantageous.
