We also produce Rail – Britain’s biggest-selling modern railway magazine.

The Focus of the Role

As part of a busy, talented team of Production Editors and Designers, a main focus of your role will be helping to steer our magazines through their monthly production cycles, with support when necessary. You’ll ensure our brands are consistent and error-free, and look good and read wonderfully for our audiences! You’ll be required to work across the titles listed above, as directed by the Group Production Lead. A knowledge of rail is welcome but not essential. This is a great opportunity for a production professional with sound consumer/B2B magazine experience and excellent time-management skills, who can work on raw copy and designed pages with equal élan and accuracy, and who is comfortable working with editorial teams to ensure a smooth throughput of pages. This role will be based in Peterborough, and there'll be a requirement for you to attend the Peterborough office as part of a hybrid working pattern.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing production schedules and setting deadlines, ensuring as much as possible that there are no bottlenecks or gaps, and that the Art and Production desks are working at a manageable and consistent rate.
  • Creating and amending flatplans.
  • Subbing, editing and proofing raw copy, layouts and digital channels, adhering to house styles.
  • Working with other departments to ensure deadlines are met on all types of pages, including marketing, commercial etc.
  • Alerting the Group Production Lead or Group Editor when copy, layouts or proofs aren’t up to the required standard.
  • Working closely with the Art team to ensure that layouts complement copy, and that the design and pictures work with the copy.
  • Alerting the Group Editor to any problems with layouts.
  • Final approval of pages and advertorials.
  • Sending pages to print.

What You’ll Bring

  • An affinity with and wide knowledge of cars, motorcycles and/or rail will be essential.
  • Knowledge of Monday.com, Dataplan and Woodwing.
  • Ability to pivot to digital.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams or independently.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think like a reader and know what our audiences will want.
  • Keen to contribute to ideas to develop the brand.
  • Able to adapt and work flexibly.

Working Pattern/Location

Hybrid working pattern, with a mix of office-based and remote working depending on team needs.
