Bauer Media Audio is making a significant investment in a new in‑house software engineering hub in Manchester. This new hub reinforces Manchester’s position as a key technology centre for Bauer Media Audio, alongside its existing locations. We’re creating a new engineering team to build innovative business‑critical solutions that will power Bauer Media’s audio platform of the future.

Our team thrives on collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to delivering high‑quality, scalable solutions, working closely with product and technology peers to ensure our platforms meet the evolving needs of the business and our international markets.

The Difference You Will Make

As a Software Engineer, you’ll contribute to building the audio platform of the future at Bauer Media Audio. Working alongside senior engineers, you’ll build and maintain features and services, grow your skills, and take on increasing ownership as the team scales. You will play a key role in helping to create a diverse, welcoming and inclusive environment that is psychologically safe, where everyone can be their authentic selves and do their best work, every day.

Your Role

  • Build and deliver: Develop and maintain features and services across the platform, taking increasing ownership as you and the team grow. Contribute to prototyping and early‑stage feature work.
  • Collaborate and contribute: Participate in code review – giving and receiving feedback constructively as part of how the team improves together. Contribute to technical discussions within your squad, sharing your perspective and growing your understanding of how the broader architecture fits together. Collaborate with product and technology colleagues to build a shared understanding of what you're building and why.
  • Champion quality and operational excellence: Apply DevOps practices and contribute to CI/CD, automation, and observability as a natural part of how you work. Write and maintain tests (unit, integration) and apply security best practices in day‑to‑day development. Participate in incident management rotas, providing hands‑on technical support and clear communication during high‑pressure situations.
  • Support the team: Work collaboratively with colleagues across experience levels – giving and receiving support, pairing, and sharing knowledge as part of a team that grows together. Play your part in growing the team – contributing to interviews and helping new engineers settle in quickly.

What We Are Looking For

  • Technical capability: Solid engineering experience, with the ability to work independently on features across frontend and backend – including strong problem‑solving and debugging skills. Familiarity with our core stack: Node/TypeScript, React, Java, and AWS – or a comparable modern stack; exposure to Kubernetes and Kafka a plus. Knowledge of microservices, APIs, and cloud‑based deployment. CI/CD, containerisation, and DevOps practices as part of how you work day to day. Security best practices applied in day‑to‑day development.
  • Collaboration and communication: Good communication skills – able to collaborate across disciplines and express technical ideas clearly. A constructive approach to giving and receiving feedback, and a habit of sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • Industry and delivery experience: Experience working in a product‑led, agile software delivery environment. Some familiarity with incident management or on‑call responsibilities. Media, audio streaming, or consumer platform experience is a plus.

Working Pattern and Location

This is a permanent, hybrid, full‑time role with an in‑office presence twice a week in our Manchester hub. Like all roles in the team, this one includes participation in incident management rotas – we schedule these collaboratively, taking into account everyone's responsibilities and commitments outside of work.

What’s in it for you: You’ll have 28 days holiday, bank holidays & 2 volunteer days to use. Your development matters, so access to our internal training provider – Bauer Academy, is a huge win. We have enhanced Maternity/Adoption, Paternity and Shared Parental Leave Pay. You’ll have the opportunity for flexible working.

Equal Opportunities: We are an international employer and equal opportunities are important to us. That's why we welcome everyone in their uniqueness, regardless of e.g. religion, gender, skin color, disability in our house. We are committed to ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible to all.
