The Purchasing Planner I is responsible for the execution of purchase orders to conform to requirements of the Master production schedule. The Purchasing Planner I is responsible for expediting parts and orders from vendors, managing vendor relationships, and data integrity of the ERP system. The Purchasing Planner I reports to the Senior Manager of Sourcing and Supply Chain.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plans and procures production component materials.
  • Plans and procures capital equipment, shop supplies and MRO (Maintenance, Repairs and Operations) purchases.
  • Works with suppliers, providing updated forecasts/requirements as necessary to ensure there is sufficient supplier capacity and resources.
  • Tracks assigned products to ensure sufficient supply to meet both dependent and independent demand, updates ERP with confirmed dates and alerts Production Planning of issues.
  • Maintains Item Master purchasing data integrity with regards to group code, minimum order quantity, order multiple and purchase lead time. Data accuracy is critical.
  • Executes ECO's (Engineering Change Orders), updating incoming supply to latest revision levels and reclassifying or scrapping existing stock as appropriate; recommends ECO effectivity date changes to Engineering if existing stock needs to be used up.
  • Maintains suppliers that provide high quality products and services at a better price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct.
  • Monitors and orders all items through purchasing queue to keep production flowing in a timely manner.
  • Arranges for disposal of surplus materials.
  • Performs co-worker's tasks during absences within the department.
  • Performs tasks in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Maintains work environment in accordance with Lean 5S standards and performs tasks in accordance with company safety standards. Drives continuous improvement.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement or related; OR four plus (4+) years of relevant experience which would provide the required knowledge and skills and allow successful performance of the job.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multitask and prioritise demands.
  • Self-starter, ability to resolve issues and research solutions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated organisational and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively; listen, maintain confidentiality, speak professionally, and learn process and procedures quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to comprehend and respond to customer needs in a timely manner.
