Overview

Pharmacist — Hours: 40, Full-time. Location: London Battersea Power Station. Department: Pharmacy. Reporting to: Pharmacy Director.

Job Summary: The Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, effective, and lawful delivery of pharmaceutical services, including the clinical screening, dispensing, and management of prescriptions. Acting as the Responsible Pharmacist when required, the role ensures compliance with GPhC standards, medicines legislation, and local SOPs. The Pharmacist provides expert advice to patients, delivers services under Patient Group Directions (PGDs), supports the development of the pharmacy team, and maintains high standards of patient care, safety, and confidentiality while delivering excellent customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Clinically screen, accurately prepare, and dispense prescriptions in line with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
  • Act as the Responsible Pharmacist (RP) when required, ensuring compliance with the Responsible Pharmacist Regulations and maintaining the RP log.
  • Ensure the safe, effective, and lawful running of the pharmacy during RP hours, including supervision of staff and processes.
  • Work under and deliver services via Patient Group Directions (PGDs), ensuring all required training, accreditation, and declarations are completed and kept up to date.
  • Provide expert advice and counselling to patients on prescribed medicines, OTC treatments, and minor ailments.
  • Deliver high-quality patient-centred care at the counter, in consultations, and over the phone.
  • Ensure compliance with GPhC standards, SOPs, and all medicines legislation, including controlled drug regulations.
  • Oversee safe storage, handling, and disposal of medicines, including controlled drugs and fridge-line items.
  • Maintain accurate patient medication records (PMRs), prescription documentation, and service records using pharmacy systems.
  • Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, and ordering to ensure continuity of supply and minimise waste.
  • Support and deliver pharmacy services such as NMS, CPCS, vaccinations, emergency supply, and other locally commissioned or private services.
  • Uphold confidentiality, data protection, and professional standards at all times.

Requirements – Essential:

  • MPharm degree (or equivalent) and current registration with the GPhC.
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification.
  • Completion of relevant PGD training and competency assessments, or willingness to complete upon appointment.
  • Experience acting as a Responsible Pharmacist in a community or retail pharmacy setting.
  • Strong clinical knowledge with excellent attention to detail and decision-making skills.
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to counsel patients and liaise with healthcare professionals.
  • Competent IT skills, including use of PMR systems and electronic prescribing platforms.
  • Sound understanding of pharmacy law, governance, and regulatory compliance.
