Job Summary
Battelle's Health Research and Analytics (HRA) business line is currently seeking a Senior Programmer to support our government customer in Portsmouth, VA (remote available). This Public Health (PH) program enables our government customer to maximize readiness through force health protection (FHP) strategies and solutions for current and potential Public Health (PH) threats. The core scientific and technical capabilities and product lines in this program are to conduct Health Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Analysis; Disease and Injury Prevention; and PH Consultation and Support for the benefit of active-duty service members, retirees, and their families. Battelle shall enable these capabilities and product lines by providing Scientific and Technical Information (STI) deliverables, by performing Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and other Research and Development (R&D) related analytical services.
Responsibilities
- Establishes data requirements from a nonâtechnical customer, writes applicable programs, and delivers results in a comprehensible format.
- Extracts data from large tables and manipulates complex datasets, in particular, military healthcare claims data.
- Applies and interprets analytical and mathematical tools through the programming environment to address complex issues involving multiple table structures with complex query designs.
- Provides SAS programming and technical expertise on statistical analysis, methods, and techniques for epidemiological or research studies.
- Constructs SAS programs.
- Reviews SAS programs others have written for correctness and efficiency.
- Formulates analysis and data collection plans.
- Routinely explores existing databases and resources to identify opportunities to improve existing or create new products.
- Occasionally performs sample, size, and power calculations and stratification and randomization of studies.
- Ensures the statistical validity and epidemiological applicability of study activities.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field such as computer science, data science, biostatistics or epidemiology.
- 5 â 12 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Minimum 5 yearsâ SAS experience writing and debugging programs.
- Expertise and mastery of the SAS language and other statistical packages such as R.
- Experience with SAS DATA Step Processing, SQL Processing, SAS Macro Language, SAS/STAT, SAS/GRAPH, Data Management with Large Datasets.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree preferred in relevant scientific fields such as computer science, data science, biostatistics or epidemiology.
- Familiarity with ICD-9/10-CM diagnosis and procedures codes and CPT codes.
- Experience with Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) Standards.
