Batheaston Medical Centre is a warm, patient-centred village practice dedicated to providing high quality, compassionate care. Our team takes pride in putting the needs of our patients first, and we are now looking for a Practice Nurse with experience in Asthma management and reviews to join our supportive clinical team.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Practice Nurse who has experience in conducting Asthma reviews and is confident in managing Asthma patients in line with current best practice guidelines. The ideal candidate will be committed to delivering excellent patient care and working collaboratively within a small, friendly team.

Main Duties of the Practice Nurse

The Practice Nurse will work as part of the multidisciplinary primary care team to deliver high quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients. Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide comprehensive long-term condition management.
  • Undertake cervical cytology, immunisations (childhood and adult), wound care.
  • Manage and treat minor illnesses and injuries within scope of competence.
  • Provide travel health advice and vaccinations.
  • Support and deliver screening and prevention programmes in line with national and local guidelines.
  • Deliver health promotion and education, empowering patients to self-manage their conditions.

Job Responsibilities

The Practice Nurse will play a key role in delivering high quality, patient-centred nursing care within Batheaston Medical Centre. Working as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide a wide range of clinical services that reflect the needs of our village community. They will be responsible for assessing, planning and implementing nursing care while maintaining a strong commitment to the core values of the practice, ensuring that every patient receives compassionate, safe and effective support.

The role includes undertaking chronic disease management, providing patients with comprehensive reviews and evidence-based advice to support self-management and ongoing well-being. The nurse will also deliver essential services including cervical cytology, routine and travel immunisations, wound care, ear care, health checks and other clinical interventions appropriate to their training and competence. They will maintain high standards of infection control, uphold safe cold chain procedures and contribute to the delivery of national screening, prevention and health promotion programmes.

The Practice Nurse will be expected to work collaboratively with GPs, healthcare assistants, pharmacists and administrative colleagues, contributing to a cohesive and supportive culture where communication is open and teamwork is valued. They will participate in clinical meetings, quality improvement activity, and the development of practice protocols and pathways, helping to enhance the overall effectiveness of the service. Accurate and timely clinical documentation is essential, as is adherence to professional standards set out by the NMC.

As part of a dedicated and close-knit nursing team, the post holder will contribute to a working environment characterised by mutual respect, shared learning and a collective commitment to putting patients first. They may also be involved in supporting the development of junior colleagues or students where appropriate.
