We are seeking a Technical Demonstrator to support teaching, learning, and research within our 3D Digital Design and Making facilities. The role involves providing specialist technical expertise, maintaining workshop equipment, and delivering practical demonstrations and training across technologies such as 3D printing, CNC milling, CAD/CAM systems and associated software.

As our Technical Demonstrator in 3D Design, you will support teaching, learning, and innovation through the safe and effective use of digital manufacturing technologies. The role involves:

  • Providing technical instruction and training in CAD/CAM software (including Rhino and Fusion).
  • Supporting the full digital design workflow from concept to production.
  • Operating and maintaining specialist equipment such as 3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, and 3D scanners.
  • Advising on materials and manufacturing methods.
  • Ensuring high standards of health and safety.
  • Managing workshop resources.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of facilities, processes, and digital making practices.

About You:

  • Proven experience of supporting or delivering technical activities within a 3D Digital Design and Making environment, including digital fabrication processes such as 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, and associated workshop practices.
  • Strong practical knowledge of digital design and manufacturing software, such as Rhino, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, slicing software (e.g. PrusaSlicer), and file preparation for digital fabrication.
  • Experience of operating and supporting specialist digital fabrication and scanning technologies, including 3D printers, 3D scanners, CAD/CAM systems, and associated software workflows.
  • Ability to develop and deliver technical demonstrations, inductions, training, and support activities that enhance teaching, learning, research, and student engagement.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Health and Safety requirements within workshop, studio, or fabrication environments, including the safe operation, maintenance, and management of specialist equipment and facilities.
  • Experience supporting higher education teaching, learning, or research activities.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting digital fabrication equipment.
  • Experience supporting exhibitions, events, external projects, or industry collaborations.
  • Evidence of developing new technical resources, facilities, or workflows.
  • Strong organisational skills, including stock control and workshop resource management.

  • Grade 6 - starting from £13,580 rising to £15,077 per annum Pro Rata £33,951 - £37,694.
